i’ve spent the past YEAR+ entrenched in the practice of GENUINE community, and learning first hand how vital it is to us as humans. i went back to college after a decade away. Joined a revolutionary political organization. CONTINUED MY dedication to mutual aid in our city & organizing for a liberated Palestine, in our lifetime. this work has radicalized me, and affirmed my belief that we need each other more than ever.

while on this path, i’ve thought a lot about golden moon, and what it means to me. for a while I conceded to the opinion that — it’s just cake! there are more important THINGS for me TO FOCUS ON.

but then I thought about you all, the community that has supported me. so many cakes eaten while celebrating life’s most precious moments WITH YOUR LOVED ONES, hundreds of dollars you’ve helped raise to FEED our community, and BEAUTIFUL friendships forged at cake club. these are just a few things I am incredibly proud of and inspired by.

which led me to the ultimate conclusion that it’s not just cake.
bringing people together in these ways actually means everything.

my hope for golden moon is that all the silly frosting & glitter brings you hope amidst the chaos.
that you are encouraged to come out to events to connect with others,
& that you find opportunity within those moments to support one another & create systems of care.
and finallythat we all let ourselves feel joy WHEN THE OPPORTUNITY IS PRESENT,
so THAT we have the capacity to keep fighting for A BETTER WORLD.
